About Me

Alonna (アラナ) Shaw is a place-based poet who works across poetry, visual art, and film. Her work explores how memory and the body shape what we carry when language falls short. She participates in the strange ethics of being human. ❤️robots.

My Thingness Within Centos

I went the long way to discover—to make it my discovery. What path did I take?

I completed my 56-page project and then wrote this short poem... in my words rolled together in my brain from the chance dice roll within someone else's lines.

We thingy-things are
As things thoughts wishing
      for things
Wished for as a thing

This means something to me. I can't say if it will for you. Close reading is a skill best shared with others. Read it with someone else and see what they notice. This way we discover even more about ourselves and the words.

Once I had completed the experiments and gained perspective by doing the tedious yet intriguing work of my long project, I had some fun creating images to go with the centos. Centos are lines harvested from other creative works and rolled up into a poem.

These are my three fav images. The main link for this project can be found up in the tabs or here.
